In the production day we learnt a lot of new things about how the filming industry works, and learnt new terminology and new ways to film. one of the techniques that we learnt about was:
Track and zoom
Track and zoom which was created by alfred hitchcock in 1958, is also known as dolly zoom is a good effect if you want to create an unsettling feeling or a characters revelation. This is done by using the zoom on a camera to zoom in and at the same time, the camera is moving away/toward the subject of focus to keep it the same size and gives the effect that the background is moving towards or further away, but the subject of focus stays the same. This effect is used is many films, and one exapmle is the film below; 'Vertigo' made by Alfred Hitchcock.
We also learnt other words such as:
Setup- how the shot is framed and will be filmed
Sharp focus- something in the frame that is completely in focus and not blurry
Soft focus- something in the frame that is not in focus and is blurry
We learnt breifly about how continuity (match on action) happens and how to avoid situations that envoke it. continuity is when the editers have missed something out, like if an actor had mud on his face and then in the nest shot his face is clear, that would be a continuity error. Or if the camera has been caught in the refection of a window. as filmakers you have to be aware of these things during the editing phase of the film production.
We learnt how to storyboard and how to plan out our film in certain ways. we learnt filming terminology such as "first positions", "camera rolling", "action", "cut", and saying them at the right time whirlst filming. it gave us an idea of what role the cameramen and directer play.
What was hard?
we were given a script which was difficult because i was already having ideas, and then i had to be reined back by the script which wasnt very helpful. it was also hard because the script didnt have much action in it which was our chosen genre.
What was easy?
coming up with ideas that suited the genre was very easy as i thought of the other action movies and the conventions they have and what we could use in our film. It was also very easy to work as a team because all our team work well together.
What could I improve?
i could improve my use of film language and using different out of the ordinary shots to make our movie opening different from everyone elses, and unique.
