Lighting and Colour

Lighting

The lighting for our main task ‘Unspoken (working title)’ is a tricky situation due to filming in the London Underground and having to receive a permit to shoot there, they have allowed no lighting what so ever. So we have decided to use natural lighting of the underground stations as we also feel that this would be more effective for this film to make it more realistic. The station we will be using is Paddington. But as a backup in case something goes wrong, we have decided that we will shoot also at Angel station, and Baker Street station.

The lighting of Paddington underground is very light due to the huge skylight that is placed directly above the trains coming through. We can use this to the best of our advantage due to the fact of our non-lighting problem. However there is a downside to having too much lighting as it takes away the creepy supernatural atmosphere we are trying to create.
The lighting of the Angel Underground is lit fairly well due to the fact that this station is completely underground. This gives us a good advantage as it will be lit fairly well, and the yellowish lights give it that true underground feel, and the grotty scruffiness of it all. It also has that creepy effect as the lights aren’t as bright due to the yellow tint.

The Baker Street Underground is fairly lit as well, but some times can be very dark due to being th first underground station in the world. It has platforms that are opposite which is what we need, and it has that creepy effect because of the darkness of it all. The only thing is, it might be too dark for the fact that we have no lighting and that might be a problem when it comes to filming.

When it comes to the day I think that we are just going to choose the Paddington station, but if we go there on the day and it’s not what we expected, we will check out the other two to see if they offer anything better.

Another alternative when it comes to lighting could be that we use certain items that are presented to us on the day that can reflect light onto our chosen frame or actor. We could also choose the places we decide to put the actors, as that could affect the type of look we were going for. i think also that having natural lighting for our film will create a more natural effect, and that our audience will feel like a part of our film because of the realism of it.

 Colour

The colouring of the film will be simple. underground tend to be grotty, so with the undergrounds, it connotates with the fact the our main charater Ariadne doesnt have much money and that shes running away so she wouldnt nessaserilly have the best clothing. It also helps that the stations we plan to use have a sort of aged look to them which gives of mystery and enigma. For the first few shots we have Ariadne in the crowd, but the audience are not supposed to know that is our main protagonist. so we are going to have her blend into the crowd by wearing clothes that will blend her in. One of our group members Cary created a mood board for Ariadnes sense of style, and this is what she came up with:
As you can see, he has a lot more brown neutral colours, to also blend in with the crowd surrounding him.
